I was having the same exact problem and you were right there are one of two different Updates It was KB and not KB like everyone kept suggesting when searching for help after i decided not to install windows 10 tech preview but it kept poping up a reminder. Hi, I thought I'd try installing windows 10 technical preview. What I really wanted to do was find an iso and install it on a virtual machine - can't really afford to have my main dev PC borked right now. Unfortunately, on failing to find the iso and somehow getting the impression that the installer could create an iso, I ran the installer which then failed to give any option to cancel or review anything before rebooting.
Now I'm in a kind of limbo - I'm not going to install windows 10 on this machine and I don't trust it to give me the option to just pop off an iso file. I can continue to use windows 7 but windows keeps popping up with handy 'windows 10 technical preview installer is read' messages.

Unfortunately, I can't find that update on the list of updates - infact, there's nothing for the 1st of Feb. I think this because I'm in a weird limbo where the machine has rebooted and now wants to being the update hence the persistent popup so perhaps that's why the update's not on the list.
A VS service pack keeps failing but I think that's an unrelated issue. I haven't got enough disk space or dedicated spare time right now to back up my harddisks so I'm still a bit cautious about going ahead with the upgrade, even if I can roll back later: like I said, I'll preview the goodies in 10 in a VM if I can have the iso now.
